Spokane has had “A Taste of Greece” for 90 years! The Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, on Washington Street in Spokane, welcomes members of Spokane and surrounding communities to celebrate 90 years of authentic Greek food, music, dancing, culture, and parea (Greek for “a joyfully connected group of friends” or “tribe”).
“We say every year that we’re the longest-running Greek Food Festival in the country, but 90 years makes that statement feel particularly meaningful,” says Rev. Fr. Daniel Triant, head priest at Holy Trinity. “We have been and continue to be truly honored to serve you in this way, and we hope you enjoy some of the special activities we have planned to celebrate the many generations of parishioners, family, friends, and community members who have put the Fest on the map.”
Those activities include a raffle with prizes featuring Greek dance lessons, a gift basket, and a ticket to the original (and most nostalgically requested) Greek dinner in our downstairs hall; an exclusive Greek Fest Mug Club; a slideshow featuring photos from decades of hospitality and merriment; and a Memorial Wall–a museum-style walk-through of the rich history of the Fest.
Those who have attended Greek Fest in the past know how much we treasure tradition. Greek Fest staples, like stuffed-to-the-brim gyros, dripping-with-honey loukoumades (Greek fried dough balls) and fresh baklava are all back, as well as our kafenio, marketplace, and bookstore. Our dance group, the Opa Dancers, will also return, and this year we will invite the public to join in some traditional dances during the day on Thursday and Friday.
“As we look forward to another year of sharing our culture and our faith, we are just as mindful of the recent devastating effects of the fires that have ravaged our community,” Rev. Fr. Daniel continues. “Part of being able to serve means that we share in the joys of our neighbors, as well as the pain. In that vein, we plan to donate a portion of proceeds from this year’s festival to fire relief efforts. We are grateful every year for the opportunity to give back to the community that has supported us for decades, and this year will be no exception.”

The Holy Trinity Greek Food Festival—the longest running in the country—will take place at 1703 North Washington St in Spokane from 11:00a.m. to 8:00p.m. Thursday, September 24, to Saturday, September 26. In-person church tours will be at 12:30p.m., 4:00p.m., and 6:00p.m. daily. It appeals especially to families, college students, those curious about Greek Orthodox customs, foodies, etc. FREE entry, cash and credit cards only on for-purchase items.
